Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), are any organisms whose DNA has been altered using biotechnology to introduce certain traits. In agriculture industry, GMO crops are engineered to resist pests and herbicides, improve shelf life, enhance nutritional value and enhance flavor. Developing these traits naturally would take several generations, but genetic modification fastens this process. Commonly grown GMO crops include cotton, corn and soybean Supporters argue that GMOs enable higher food production, which is essential for feeding a growing global population. Doctoral students were asked to take "Pro", "Con", and "In Between" positions regarding the usefulness and harm of Genetically Modified Organisms. (Full topic...) About The Unifiers’ Movement (UM)
UM is a global non-profit organization which aims to engage interested scholars with differing views in examining important global societal issues and developing publishable respected arguments that can serve as trustworthy sources to individuals, families, organizations, governments, etc., to express their own informed positions on the issue. These positions will continue being re-examined as new evidence becomes available and being re-adjusted in addendum publications so that they can remain relevant and current.
